Duke Energy Coal Ash Plan Requested

Duke Energy is told to report to the state its plan for clearing coal ash ponds around the state. The state Department of Environment and Natural Resources says Duke is to submit plans by November 15th of how it will excavate coal ash from four high-risk dumps, including at the Lake Julian power plant in South Asheville. Duke is also to submit surveys of private drinking water wells and surface water that could be contaminated by ash, at all 14 of its North Carolina coal plants, by October 14th.
